Let’s dream it up. We can celebrate the book launch, the album release, the phD. We can honor an abortion. We can marry you to Yourself! We can bless up the divorce and celebrate the end of a relationship. We can love and listen with the land. We can concoct a party that blesses a beloved’s life before the funeral, so they can receive the Love while still alive. We can cradle you in ways you never got as a baby. We can turn a house-warming into a sacred invocation for the visions this Home will hold. We can bow to you as you become Crone.
Beyond the birthday party, the wedding, the baby shower, & the funeral, American culture has largely forgotten the power and necessity of Ritual. Especially when somebody doesn’t check the boxes of culturally-sanctioned rites of passage, we can feel an absence and ache for our community’s witness. We need this to fully grow into our souls. We need this to feel our gifts welcome by the Whole.
Additionally, I hold ritual space for collective grief-tending ~ inspired by teachers Malidoma Some, Sobonfu Some, Francis Weller, Martin Prechtl, and Laurence Cole.
